Adult Hebrew Wed evenings beginning 9/21

Various levels of adult Hebrew are offered on Wednesday evenings, running concurrently with our children’s Hebrew school program beginning Wednesday, September 21. These classes focus on classical Hebrew, the Hebrew of the Bible and prayer book, as opposed to modern conversational Hebrew. Fee for Adult Hebrew: $20 textbook fee (plus $100 fee for non-members) To register for any of these classes, or if you are uncertain about which level to take, contact Rabbi Linda lmotzkin@nycap.rr.com
 Adult Hebrew 1 – Aleph Isn’t Tough (for absolute beginners with no prior knowledge - starting with learning the letters of the Hebrew alphabet) – 6:30 to 7:30, taught by Rabbi Jonathan
 Adult Hebrew II – Aleph Isn’t Enough (for beginners who already know the letters and vowels of the Hebrew alphabet and can sound out words, but don't know what any of it means) – 6:30 to 7:30, taught by Keith Fuchs
 Adult Hebrew III – Continuation of last year’s level II, completing Aleph Isn’t Enough and moving to Bet is for B’reishit (for those who have enrolled in the two beginning Hebrew courses at Temple Sinai or equivalent – 6:30 to 7:30, taught by Rabbi Jonathan
 Adult Hebrew IV – Continuation of last year’s level III, completing Bet is for B’reishit and moving to Tav is for Torah (for those who have enrolled in the three previous courses or equivalent) – 6:30 to 7:30, taught by Rabbi Linda
 Advanced Adult Hebrew (for those who have completed the basic introductory Hebrew classes at Temple Sinai, or equivalent study elsewhere, and are interested in reading and translating Hebrew passages from the Bible and classical Hebrew literature, as well as more advanced grammar study) – 7:30 to 8:30, taught by Rabbi Linda

Interested in Yiddish? What a Question! Noontime group begins Thursday September 8

The Yiddish study group is for those among us who don't know much more than "a bisl" (a little bit) but appreciate the "taam" (flavor) of Yiddish and would like to learn more together. This group will be meeting from 12 noon to 1pm on Thursdays beginning Sept. 8. If you are interested in participating, please email Rabbi Linda lmotzkin@nycap.rr.com

Thursday Bible Study Resumes September 8
On Thursday, September 8, our Bible Study Group will resume meeting weekly from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. We are currently reading parshat hashavua – the weekly Torah portion. Newcomers are welcome to drop in on any session and join in the discussion.

Experiencing Jewish Prayer

Sunday Mornings, Monthly, 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. beginning Oct 2
This class is open to those who are interested in deepening their understanding and experience of Jewish prayer. Sessions will focus on issues related to individual and communal prayer and to exploring the meaning and significance of specific parts of our prayer services. Participants are welcome to attend individual sessions or the entire series as schedules permit; those who are enrolled in the Adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah course (see next item below) should plan to attend every session. The dates for 5772 (2011-2012) are Sundays 10/2, 11/6, 12/4, 2/5, 3/5, 4/1, and 5/6. (There is a time overlap between this class, the end of the early religious school session, and the beginning of the late session. Child care can be provided for children enrolled in early or late religious school sessions, upon request, to cover that overlap time.)
To register to attend sessions of this class, or for more information, contact the rabbis (lmotzkin@nycap.rr.com; jrubenst@nycap.rr.com)
