As we write this message, it is mid-August and we are heading up to one of our favorite spots in downeast Maine: the tiny seaside town of Lubec, on the Canadian border. We go to this fairly remote location to pick blueberries and make pies, to walk along dramatic tidal bays, to ride our bikes, to read books and sing songs, to slow down and take deep breaths and appreciate the natural beauty of an unspoiled corner of Creation.
We were overwhelmed, honored, and humbled by the wonderful events of the weekend of June 3-5, marking our twenty-five years at Temple Sinai and 25 years since our ordination. We appreciate the tremendous amount of work that went into planning the weekend, and the generous and thoughtful gifts we received.
This month, May 2011, marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of our ordination as rabbis from Hebrew Union College/Jewish Institute of Religion. Our seminary is marking that occasion by bestowing upon our classmates and us the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity. We will be returning to Cincinnati for a degree ceremony that will also be a reunion with our classmates, some of whom we haven’t seen in twenty-five years. This summer marks, as well, the 25th anniversary of our tenure as the rabbis of Temple Sinai.
