Community Torah Proofing

The Community Torah Repair continues!

The repair of Temple Sinai’s “Bronx Torah”, torn during our Simchat Torah celebration this year, is underway, and YOUR help is needed to complete this project. Rabbi Linda is currently scribing a replacement panel, with the goal of finishing it in time for the rabbis’ last Shabbat on Dec 30-31. Every letter Rabbi Linda scribes must be checked to ensure there are no mistakes. Four proofreading sessions have already taken place (click here for the Instagram post and pictures) and more will be scheduled, with Rabbi Linda providing all the explanations and materials needed for you to proofread (even if you don’t know Hebrew)! All are welcome to participate in any of the following proofreading opportunities:

  • Weds 12/7 and Weds 12/14 – During Weds Hebrew school, between 6 and 7:30 pm
  • Friday 12/9 and Friday 12/23 between 9 and 10 am
  • Sunday 12/25 Christmas Mitzvah – timing TBD

Other times by appointment – contact Rabbi Linda for location and to make an appointment

It is a mitzvah to assist in the making of a Torah scroll, and this is a rare opportunity for the members of our community to participate!
