The Board of Trustees approved a contract with Rabbi David Katz to serve as our interim rabbi from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. Rabbi Katz, who visited us in January, comes to us with 40 years of experience, including 12 years as an interim rabbi in several synagogues.
He will not only serve as our rabbi for the coming year, but he’ll help guide the congregation and our leaders through the transition to a settled rabbi. This is an important step forward in our planning for Temple Sinai’s future.
The role of an interim rabbi is unique in the transition from a long-term settled rabbi to a new settled rabbi. An interim rabbi not only provides spiritual and educational guidance, but guides and advises the congregation and leadership in the search for a new settled rabbi.
The Board and the Search Committee have the utmost confidence in Rabbi Katz’s ability to fulfill these roles over the next year.
This agreement was made possible by the great work of our Search Committee: Michael Marx, Barry Bader, Ben Gordon, Beth Novik, Julie Fink-Sullivan, Leslie Hurst, Robin Solomon, Sandy Welter, and Sid Hellman. Our team was also assisted by Treasurer David Watsky.
We will share more details with you in the coming weeks, including a time when you’ll get to meet Rabbi Katz in person. In the meantime, feel free to contact President Jerry Silverman with any questions.
